Rotorobot Update

I’ve been working on a game called Rotorobot for a little more than a month. This a classic 2D platformer where you shoot your way through hordes of enemies.

I’m hoping to release this fairly soon. I still have a number of things to sort out:

  • the bat AI needs reworked
  • finish up the final boss
  • add in some sort of story
  • oh, and sound effects and music!

Once that’s done I’m going to throw this up on itch.io and release it for free. You can see the progress on github

If you’re curious, the artwork for this game came from here

I had to take a big break from this game over the past month due to illness, family in town for the holidays, and attempting to work on art.

Artwork update

I’ve been exploring digital painting on my tablet, as well as studying some basics. I haven’t done serious artwork in the past, so I’m trying to improve that weakness for gamedev. I’ve been sharing my artwork each day on twitter.

I’ve also been working through some great tutorials that teach fundamental drawing skills at Draw A Box. This site is all free, and offers up youtube videos and lots of text and homework assignments to help you draw better. This is a great starting point for any beginners interesting in improving their art skills.

Cool Game of the Month

My favorite new game of the month is called Anxiety.

This is a visual novel, which I don’t typically enjoy, but it has such a creative and beautiful interface that I wanted to mention it. The art and UI details draws you in so that the author can share their story.

Upcoming Game Jams

There are two game jams that I’m interested in following this month. I’m probably going to be too wrapped up in personal projects and family this month to participate, but the results should be interesting:
