I am Fredric Dorothy, just another “well-educated liberal” man trying to find his way through this modern world. I am located near Birmingham, Alabama and work professionally as a software engineer, but slinging code isn’t all that I’m passionate about.

  • I love writing stories
  • Music has been a lifelong pursuit
  • The past 10 years I have been an avid video game hobbyist

I offer to you, my humble reader, a chance to peek at my hobbies and passions through this website.

Let’s get to know each other.

I grew up in central Illinois, a flat landscape blanketed with fields of beans and corn. I was raised near the UIUC, birthplace of HAL from 2001, A Space Odyssey and Mosaic, one of the first web browsers. Needless to say the university helped shape my interests in software engineering.

My grandmother, a lover of jazz, gave me my first lessons on piano in elementary school. I still remember the smell of her smoke filled house while I hammered away at trills on the black keys of her upright piano.

I took up violin and played in orchestra in school, and later mandolin in college. I love playing celtic and spanish tunes. Some time in my late thirties I picked up a guitar and haven’t looked back.

My youth was filled with video games such as Homeworld, Starcraft and Diablo, but also pen and paper games like Dungeons and Dragons, Werewolf and Vampire. I have in recent years attempted to resurrect my love for pen and paper games, but there’s no comparison to the thrill of sitting around an old shop late on a Friday night weaving stories with friends.

I am married with two wonderful children, both of whom appear to be on the spectrum. This website is dedicated to them, may they find these archaic writings when I am old and forgetful.
